It’s not enough for Pedro Pascal to be the most in-demand, loved and admired actor in the land. He needs to be the best-dressed too.

And so we present the below evidence of the Mandalorian And Grogu star’s unrivalled band t-shirt game – from classic Strokes tees to prized Cure tops. You might have glimpsed Pascal sporting his collection on red carpets and at premieres before, but this is the first time he’s explained the stories behind each piece. The Strokes got Pedro through early acting struggles

“The Strokes, they’re the 2000s for me. I was already past nerding out on music. I was working so hard to get a job – just, like, in my struggling adult era. The Strokes fit that, but they also kind of penetrated the grind. I was just like: ‘What is this? Who are they?’”

Cypress Hill gave him high school street cred

“OK, now we’re getting into my formation. Cypress Hill, that was high school for me. And, I bought this shirt myself… I found it later in life, but I bought it because of what Cypress Hill means to me. Every now and then I bust it out. It’s a slimming shirt, so I’ve got to be in the right shape to put it on.

“High school was in Los Alamitos, which is Orange County bordering Long Beach in Southern California. West Coast, baby!”

The Cure are his fave band of all time

“Well, The Cure is middle school and high school for me. I also bought this shirt myself – in Paris at a record store. My stylist is going to be pretty annoyed, although I do get her approval.

“I finally got to see The Cure live for the first time here in London with Ebon Moss-Bachrach while we were shooting The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It was one of the best shows. I presumed – it’s so rude of me – that I probably missed the era of when it was best to see them live. But it was literally one of the best shows I’d ever seen. I was in tears for most of it.

“I wouldn’t dare meet Robert Smith. I can’t with musicians. They’re gods to me. Movie stars as well, like [The Mandalorian And Grogu co-star] Sigourney Weaver, but at least we can talk about a shared experience and shared skill. Musicians and singers are just like aliens to me.”

Loving Prince is a family vocation

“In 1984, my family went to go and see the movie Purple Rain. I was nine. It was rated R [15 or 18 in the UK] but, you know, it was the 1980s. My dad’s a doctor. He loved taking us to the movies and we went a lot on school nights, when he wanted to go. It was such a gift.

“My mum loved Prince so much. It was a family event. All of us together: my mum, my dad, my older sister and me – before my younger siblings were born – went together as a family to see Purple Rain. It’s the best pop and rock music that’s ever been written.”
