From Skepta and MJ Cole to Chris Lake and Issey Cross, Sammy Virji unites UK club culture on his new album Same Day Cleaning, out now on Astralwerks.
Born in London, raised in Witney, Sammy Virji is making the ears of fans ring as he pays an ode to his roots and assembles a UKG dream team for his newest release, Same Day Cleaning. The album—out now on Astralwerks—features various artists and producers in the scene, officially amounting to 13 special guests locked in for the producer’s 16-track project.
The album arrives in the middle of a breakout year for the artist, as he’s no longer the underground’s best-kept secret. Sammy Virji graced festivals like Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, Movement Detroit, and Outside Lands with his infectious presence earlier this season. Additionally, he lit up Forest Hill Stadium in New York and went back-to-back with dance music beloved Four Tet, further proving his impact on the community.
That same fearless energy carries into Same Day Cleaning. The album is a full-spectrum tour through UK club culture, uniting legends, newcomers, and global collaborators alike. Each track reflects the love and dedication Sammy Virji has for the sounds of UK Garage, grime, and dance, honoring the roots of UK club culture and showing fans it’s alive and thriving.
Giggs sets the pace on opener “One For The Books,” while MJ Cole reminds us why his influence is all over UKG history with “Doctor.” Tuff Jam, pioneers of the ‘90s UKG sound, return on “Up & Down” to connect the past with the present. Speaking of the present, one of the hottest tracks on the album, “925,” brings Virji together with Chris Lake and RoRo for an absolute stomper that’s already been igniting dancefloors. Rising acts such as salute and 33 Below are also featured in the record, proving Virji isn’t just preserving UKG tradition, he’s pushing it forward.
Sammy Virji also flexes his grime muscle throughout the album, teaming up with some of the scene’s finest lyricists on tracks like “Match My Mood” with Spice and Flowdan, “Cops & Robbers” with Skepta, and “Dis Badman” with Champion and IRAH. Rounding out the ride are three fantastic solo tunes, including the beloved “I Guess We’re Not The Same” that arrived earlier this year with its bouncy energy in tow.
With Same Day Cleaning, Sammy Virji doesn’t just deliver a sophomore album; he delivers a mission statement through music. For UKG fans, this one’s a must-have.
