The Weekly Injection: New Releases from ALLEGAEON, SCOWL & More Out This Week 4/4

6 days ago 5

This week's new heavy metal releases include a return that doesn't ignore a band's evolution, darkness, some early AOTY list contenders, and more! To the metals…

Allegaeon – The Ossuary Lens

New Releases from ALLEGAEON, SCOWL & More Out This Week 4/4

Genre: Technical/melodic death metal
Origin: Fort Collins, Colorado
Label: Metal Blade

Buy now on Bandcamp

After a trio of albums with a different vocalist, early-era mouth Ezra Haynes is back in front of these technical melody makers. In his time away the band introduced some clean vocals and extra melodic moments, and all those still remain. The pairing of Ezra and the elements they developed in his absence are so strong together. They've never released a bad album, but this is their best in some time.

Fractal Universe – The Great Filters

New Releases from ALLEGAEON, SCOWL & More Out This Week 4/4

Genre: Progressive/technical death metal
Origin: Nancy, Grand Est, France
Label: M-Theory Audio

Buy now on Bandcamp

Up next we have a Fractal Universe keeping the melodic tech side of things going. The band's first record in four years is easily their most dynamic yet while keeping their tradition of saxophone-infused prog alive. It also is the first with new guitarist Yohan Dully.

Mizmor / Hell – Alluvion

New Releases from ALLEGAEON, SCOWL & More Out This Week 4/4

Genre: Drone/doom
Origin: Portland/Salem, Oregon
Label: Gilead Media

Buy now on Bandcamp

After quite a while of running in the same spooky circles and putting out a split together, Mizmor and Hell are finally putting out a full-on collaborative album. This is some dark and heavy shit. It's one that takes its time to envelope you and once it does, there's no escape.

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs – Death Hilarious

New Releases from ALLEGAEON, SCOWL & More Out This Week 4/4

Genre: Heavy metal/stoner rock
Origin: Newcastle upon Tyne, England
Label: Missing Piece Records

Buy now on Bandcamp

Riffs on riffs on riffs. That's what you're getting here. They've got a toe in classic metal, a toe in indie, but they're giving you all they got via some smoky jams. There's weirdly a guest spot from El-P from Run The Jewels too.

Scowl – Are We All Angels

New Releases from ALLEGAEON, SCOWL & More Out This Week 4/4

Genre: Alternative rock/punk
Origin: Santa Cruz, California
Label: Dead Oceans

Buy now on Bandcamp

The sophomore release from one of rock's rising star is another gem that's difficult to define. There's some hardcore, there's some pop punk, there's some 90's-esque alternative. Regardless of what silly label it has, it's a good time.

Tómarúm – Beyond Obsidian Euphoria

New Releases from ALLEGAEON, SCOWL & More Out This Week 4/4

Genre: Progressive black metal
Origin: Atlanta, Georgia
Label: Prosthetic

Buy now on Bandcamp

Taking us home with an album of the year contender. Tómarúm's second album is a release unlike much else. It feels like both modern and class black metal while experimenting beyond the traditional scope of either. Fans of Ne Obliviscaris, Dessiderium, and other proggy blackened bands with epic song lengths should hop on this.
