The BAFTA Games Awards took place last night (April 8) in London, celebrating the past 12 months of video game greatness.
The ceremony took place at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and was hosted by comedian Phil Wang, but was also livestreamed across YouTube and Twitch.
Astro Bot was the big winner of the night, with the PlayStation 5 game walking away with five trophies including Best Game. It beat out competition from Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Helldivers 2, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom and Thank Goodness You’re Here! in the category. Astro Bot was also awarded the BAFTA for Game Design, Audio Achievement, Animation and Family title.
During an acceptance speech for Best Game, Astro Bot’s director Nicolas Doucet said the team crafted the game with “so much love and so much care, without any thought about winning things.”
“We wanted to make people’s lives brighter,” he continued before paying tribute to the “game creators who came before us.”
Elsewhere during the 2025 BAFTA Games Awards, Balatro picked up the trophy for Best Debut, Helldivers 2 was awarded Best Music and Best British Game went to Thank Goodness You’re Here!.

Before the ceremony, BAFTA announced it would be awarding legendary video games composer Yoko Shimomura with the BAFTA Fellowship, the highest honour the organisation has.
Shimomura has scored a number of brilliant games, including Final Fantasy 15, Xenoblade Chronicles and the Kingdom Hearts series. In a statement she said: “I am absolutely delighted to receive such an amazing and prestigious award as this, although, honestly speaking, I still cannot quite believe it. I am who I am today thanks to all the people who have supported me, allowing me to continue being involved with the music that I love and discovering the medium of games where that music can flourish.”
In other news, Nintendo has confirmed that the game cartridges for the Switch 2 will taste disgusting. “We don’t want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption,” explained one executive. “We have indeed made it so that if it enters your mouth, you’ll spit it out.”
