Thom Yorke Debuts New Song “Dialing In” for Apple TV’s Smoke: Stream

Just a few weeks removed from the release of his collaborative album with Mark Pritchard, Thom Yorke has returned with a new solo song, “Dialing In,” which serves as the theme for the upcoming Apple TV+ series, Smoke.

Originally debuting as a setlist selection for solo shows (titled “Gawpers” at the time), “Dialing In” has been revised and augmented by Yorke to match the themes of Smoke. Musically, it pairs a haunting vocal melody with a brooding arrangement, colored by juxtaposing textures of fragile bells and a tension-building underbelly.

Speaking about the collaboration in a statement, Dennis Lehane — creator and executive producer of Smoke — said, “Working with Thom Yorke was as much an honour for me as working with Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese or Richard Price. I’ve somehow been blessed with collaborating with living legends who were also formative influences on my own creative life. Thom is definitely that. In addition, he took a basic concept I gave him and delivered a song that perfectly embodies the show and absolutely crushes.”

“Dialing In” debuts today in full on streaming, as well as in the trailer for Smoke. Stream the song and watch the trailer below.

Smoke is an upcoming crime drama miniseries created by Lehane and inspired by the podcast Firebug, which tells the story of an arson investigator who is also a serial arsonist. The series will premiere on June 27th, starring Taron Egerton, Jurnee Smollett, John Leguizamo, and more.

As for Yorke, his album with Pritchard, Tall Tales, debuted earlier this month. Last year, he released the album Cutouts with The Smile, and composed the soundtrack to the Italian film Confidenza.
