Last winter, Timothée Chalamet had a funny little mustache while promoting his Oscar-nominated turn as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown — all for Marty Supreme. In the new movie from writer/director Josh Safdie, per the official description from A24, “Marty Mauser (Chalamet), a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.”
Marty Supreme draws its inspiration from the life of table tennis champion Marty Reisman, though (as indicated by the character’s name change if nothing else), will likely hew away from reality. Still, it’s one of two sports-related movies starring A-list talent coming from a Safdie this fall (Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, premieres in October).
In addition to Chalamet, the cast includes Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma (Tyler, the Creator), and Abel Ferrara, with Fran Drescher playing Marty’s mother (perfection) and Gwyneth Paltrow returning to movie screens for the first time since Avengers: Endgame; she’s been talking up just how much sex her character and Chalamet’s have in the movie for months now.
Marty Supreme arrives in theaters on December 25th, 2025. Check out the trailer below.
