Trapt Singer Blames Cancel Culture for Venues Dropping Band on Current Tour

Trapt are apparently facing the consequences of the singer Chris Taylor Brown’s extreme right-wing comments in recent years, with numerous venues dropping dates from the band’s ongoing acoustic tour.

The trek was supposed to kick off in Pittsburgh earlier this month at SideQuest on 44th, but the venue — one of four to allegedly drop the band on the tour — wasn’t having it. Trapt were forced to improvise, and with the apparent help of the promoter, moved the gig to an impromptu stage at The Building for Arts and Culture in North Versailles, Pennsylvania.

In a since-deleted video message to fans, Chris Taylor Brown addressed the dropped shows and blamed venues for caving to “cancel culture” [as transribed by The PRP]:

“Trapt is in Pittsburgh tonight, and we had a couple venues cave to cancel culture in the last few weeks, and it was going to be really hard to do the show. But we decided we’re doing it no matter what. So we got a stage together. We got this venue, called The Building For Arts And Culture. We got some Bud Lights, White Claw, you know, and just everything that our fans are going to need to have a great time with us tonight.

And I want to thank all the venues out there — it’s probably about 35 out of like 39 shows that didn’t cave to cancel culture. The couple venues that did in Pittsburgh… You know, they, trolls, they say… they lie about things I said five years ago and the joke I made — I did apologize for that, for my insensitivity, for anybody who was who’s hurt by that. But, yeah, we moved on. Our fans have moved on. There’s a few people who haven’t, but yeah, we did this show… We were, we were gonna do this show no matter what.”

The recent cancellations come after Trapt were dropped from a 2025 tour with Powerman 5000 just days after being announced as a support act. That happened back in March, leading to a statement from Brown about how the band “has not spoken about anything other than music for years now” on social media.

The damage was done, however, during COVID times, when Brown made a series of headlines for far-right remarks and pro-MAGA rants. Among the more controversial was a tweet seemingly defending statutory rape (leading to the suspension of Trapt’s Twitter page), in addition to a feud with Texas thrashers Power Trip that saw Brown inviting the Proud Boys to a Trapt show in Dallas.
