The 'Adelphi' is one of the UK's most venerable independent venues, a former working men's club at 89 De Grey Street, and has hosted the likes of Fatboy Slim, Green Day, Radiohead, Oasis, Pulp, Manic Street Preachers, and dozens more.

The rapper Chiedu Oraka was one of many artists who commented on the announcement of Jacko's death, posted by the Adelphi's official Instagram account. It was the first venue he ever performed in.

Other artists paying their respects on Instagram include Radiohead drummer Phil Selway, Rozi Plain of This Is the Kit, and Wedding Present bassist Katharine Wallinger. "Left in no doubt the place was so much more than 'just' a venue," Wallinger wrote.

Speaking on Steve Lamacq's 6 Music show, Paul Heaton of the Housemartins said, “Paul Jackson, what a brilliant personality… Every city had a club like the Adelphi, but I really don’t think any other city had somebody like Paul Jackson.”

The Music Venue Trust described Paul as “one of the finest grassroots music venue owners this country has ever known”. Jackson collected the MVT's Outstanding Achievement Award in 2019.

In an interview with The Hull Story newspaper a few years back, marking the venue's 40th anniversary, Jackson said, "Along with lots of other stuff that I‘ve done that’s probably my greatest source of pride, really; that I’ve created a safe space, a place of good conversation, and kids who’ve come through The Adelphi have tended to do very well. There are people around the world who say they grew up in The Adelphi."
