Triples — the musical project of songwriter and actor Eva Link — are the latest signing to Bleak Enterprise, which was launched just last week by Tom McGreevy of Toronto duo Ducks Ltd. McGreevy took the leap to start the label after being inspired by Oregon power-pop project Bory, with the name Bleakbeing a reference to the title of the pair’s 2019 debut EP, Get Bleak, as he tells Exclaim!. In a statement, McGreevy says:
"My only real goal for Bleak Enterprise is to try to help out some people who make music that I like. Especially with all the touring we've been doing over the last few years I hear so many artists that I get excited about, and have become more acutely aware that there are always way more people making interesting and worthwhile music than there are people with the knowledge and resources to help them build an audience.”
“Through being in a band I've also learned a bunch about how to do all the various band things, and I've met a bunch of people who understand the parts of the music industry that I don't know as much about. Many of them are very kind people who are extremely generous with their time and knowledge!”
Triples’ Every Good Story was written in the aftermath of a family tragedy for Link, with her noting that the songs “aren’t directly about the grief that I was experiencing at the time, but they’re recordings that were made when I was living in that feeling.” The lead single, “Be Around”, is the first preview of this.
“When I was just starting to date my BF, I was working at this cafe and I was daydreaming about him and I burned my hands so badly on the panini press because I was so distracted. But I didn’t even care! It felt like nothing bad that happened mattered because I felt so good and comforted by being in this relationship. How can my heart beat when I’m always thinking of you? I would defer thinking about other things going on in my life to the point where I was not prioritizing myself, and after that ‘honeymoon period’ I felt a bit disoriented with my sense of self,” Link says of the new song.
