In 1995, Ugly Kid Joe released their second full-length record Menace To Sobriety, a heavier and darker effort than its predecessor, perfectly reflecting the musical climate of the time. Hailed by Kerrang! Magazine as "the album of the year," it nevertheless received little to no promotion in the U.S., validating vocalist Whitfield Crane's claim that their label was pulling back support.
Three decades later, Menace To Sobriety's true strength is undeniable, its riffs and songwriting standing tall among the overlooked classics of the era. The album also marked the arrival of drummer Shannon Larkin (formerly of Wrathchild America and later of Godsmack), whose impact was immediate on thunderous openers like "God" and the doom-laden single "Tomorrow's World."
Songs such as "Milkman's Son," "Clover," and "Jesus Rode A Harley" showcased the chemistry of guitarists Dave Fortman and Klaus Eichstadt, the groove-laden bass of Cordell Crockett, and the dynamic range of Crane's vocals, balancing sincerity with the band's trademark sense of humor.
Now, Menace To Sobriety is being celebrated with its first official vinyl repress via Deko Entertainment. Available in two limited formats, fans can choose between a single LP reissue on "Ugly Kid Joe Ghostly Green" vinyl or a double LP pressed at 45RPM on an explosive Orange A-Side/B-Side Splatter in a gatefold sleeve, both including the bonus track "Slower Than Nowhere," absent from the original U.S. release.
Formed in 1989, Ugly Kid Joe rose to fame with As Ugly As They Wanna Be in 1991 and America's Least Wanted in 1992, both certified double platinum by the RIAA, fueled by hits like "Everything About You" and their smash cover of "Cats In The Cradle."
After breaking up in 1997, the band reunited in 2010 and has since been recording and touring consistently, proving their staying power. With this reissue, Deko Entertainment continues its mission to deliver high-quality re-releases, joining recent vinyl pressings from Union, Trapeze, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Dokken, Slaughter, and Warrant.
