Van Halen's Balance — the band's tenth studio album and final record with vocalist Sammy Hagar — is turning 30 this year. To mark the milestone, Rhino is releasing a massive Balance deluxe box set on August 15, packed with rarities, live tracks, and newly restored video content.
This release follows the success of last year's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and caps off Rhino's deep-dive into the Sammy Hagar-era Van Halen discography with a fan-favorite reissue.
What's Inside the Balance Box Set?
The Balance box set will be available as a 2LP/2CD/Blu-ray deluxe set, featuring a fresh remaster of the original album (originally featured on 2023's The Collection II), plus a treasure trove of unreleased and rare content including:
- Previously unreleased live tracks from the Balance Tour, including a roaring version of "The Seventh Seal" from Wembley Stadium
- Promo videos for "Amsterdam," "Can't Stop Lovin' You," and "Not Enough," all restored and compiled on the Blu-ray.
- Rare tracks like the B-side "Crossing Over" and soundtrack cuts "Humans Being" and "Respect The Wind" (from the Twister soundtrack).
- A never-before-seen live video of "The Seventh Seal" from the Target Center in Minneapolis (July 1995).
Pre-orders are available here.
A Closer Look at the Legacy of Balance
Originally released on January 24, 1995, Balance debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and went on to earn triple Platinum certification from the RIAA. Anchored by smash hits like "Can't Stop Lovin' You" and "Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do)," the album also featured deeper cuts like "Feelin'," "Aftershock," and "Big Fat Money."
As the last Van Halen studio album to feature the full lineup of Sammy Hagar, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and Michael Anthony, Balance represents the end of an era. Personally, I've always really dug this record and am probably about to do some damage to my bank account.
