Elton John played to the biggest crowd since he quit touring two years ago at the Singapore Grand Prix – watch footage below.

The music legend played in front of 70,000 people after the Formula One race on Sunday night (October 5), playing a 90-minute set packed with the biggest songs from his illustrious career.

The performance came two years on from the conclusion of his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour, which wrapped with an emotional concert in Stockholm, Sweden in the summer of 2023.

“Singapore, you were electric!” John wrote on Instagram after the show. “What a feeling being with over 70,000 of you – thank you for being such an incredible crowd”.

John always said that he would possibly still play “the odd show” after retiring from touring. So far, these have included the 50th annual Candlelight Concert in the US last December and the opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center last summer. In 2023, Sir Elton also played live at the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony, where he inducted his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin.

Sir Elton’s final UK headline performance took place in June 2023, when he delivered a historic, career-spanning set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival, which NME awarded five stars and described as “a Glasto set for the ages from a true all-time great”.

This April, he released a new collaborative album with Brandi Carlile called ‘Who Believes In Angels?’, featuring the Oscar-nominated song ‘Never Too Late’, which was created especially for the Disney+ documentary of the same name.

Meanwhile, Elton recently revealed that he turned his kneecaps into jewellery, and he made a brief cameo appearance in the sequel film Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues.

He was also among the artists to urge Keir Starmer to protect the work of creatives from the growing threat of AI and the infringement on protected copyrighted material.

Elsewhere at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix, Lewis Capaldi got into an awkward exchange with reporter Martin Brundle that went viral online.
