The song – which was made-up in the studio before being released on Nick Lowe’s debut solo record Jesus is Cool in 1978 was one of the beloved songwriter’s most well-known although he rarely performed it live, claiming that, “It's a really good record, but there's not actually any song there. It was a half-baked idea I had when I went to the studio, and the bass player and drummer sort of put a little sauce in it… There really isn't anything to it.”

The Fat Possum-signed Fussell – who last year collaborated on the score for the Josh O’Connor-starring neo Western Rebuilding – has just kicked off a string of May tour dates this month in the US and heads over to the UK and Europe for more shows this autumn, with a Union Chapel headline slot in London on 14 October

Fussell's cover was part of a secret session for Best Fit's at September's End of the Road, which also saw pop-up sets from The Orchestra (For Now),Throwing Muses, Truman Sinclair, Squid, Tyler Ballgame, The Sophs, Ellie O'Neill, Man/Woman/Chainsaw, jasmine.4.t, Lily Seabird, and Stewart Lee with Black Country, New Road.

Best Fit's secret sessions have become a key part of End of the Road each year, bringing together artists from across the line-up in a series of short sets, exclusive covers, collaborations, and live interviews and Q&As. Past guests have included Lucy Dacus, St Vincent, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Moses Sumney, Laura Marling, Patti Smith, and Frightened Rabbit - who played a now iconic version of "The Modern Leper".

End of the Road returns in September for its 20th anniversary edition, with headliners Pulp, Mac DeMarco, CMAT, Super Furry Animals, Fat Dog, Kurt Vile and one super-secret name yet to be revealed.
