Julien Baker has performed a cover of a System Of A Down classic with Jasmine.4.t at SXSW 2025 – check out footage of the performance below.

On Friday (March 14), Jasmine.4.t was joined by acclaimed singer-songwriter and Boygenius member Julien Baker to perform a cover of System Of A Down’s ‘Toxicity’. The cover opened Jasmine.4.t’s set, which was then followed up by a performance of ‘Skin On Skin’, also with Baker.

For the cover, Baker performed guitar and backing vocals, while Jasmine.4.t also played guitar and sang lead. They and the band were backed by a violinist. Check out fan-shot of the performance below.

That wasn’t all Julien Baker got up to at SXSW 2025 though. Two days prior, she and Torres performed their joint set, where they debuted a new tune from their upcoming debut country album, ‘Send A Prayer My Way’, out April 18 via Matador. You can pre-order and pre-save ‘Send A Prayer My Way’ here.

The new song is titled ‘Showdown’, and sees Baker and Torres split vocal duties while Baker plays the acoustic guitar. Like the upcoming album, ‘Showdown’ is a country song that includes strings and more.

It’s the fifth song that the duo have previewed from the upcoming country album following following ‘Sugar In The Tank’, ‘Sylvia’, ‘Tuesday’ and most recently, ‘Bottom Of A Bottle’, which they debuted on The Daily Show earlier this month.

In 2024, Torres opened one of Baker’s shows and the pair sang two new songs together. In November, they announced festival appearances together and created a new website, and in December, they shared their first single ‘Sugar In The Tank’.

In recent years, Baker has been busy in Boygenius alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, with the trio releasing their second album ‘The Record‘ in 2023. Her most recent solo album, ‘Little Oblivions‘, came out in 2021. Torres, meanwhile, released her sixth album, ‘What An Enormous Room’, last January.
