The record follows a breakout 18 months for the group, which has included sold-out UK headline tours and support from BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music. Something Real was recorded in Bergen, Norway, with collaborator Matias Tellez, and builds on the band’s 2024 EP When The Lights Are Out.
Lyrically, the LP takes on mental health, male suicide, domestic violence, and climate collapse. Lead vocalist Cai Alty says: “The album is basically us saying, ‘we’re young, we’re confused just like you – how did we get here?’ It’s about trying to find something meaningful in a world that often feels overwhelming.”
The title track addresses algorithm-driven division and post-truth outrage. Elsewhere, "Mary" offers a portrait of domestic abuse and its generational impact, while "Weatherman" captures climate dread.
Formed in 2021 as school friends and music students, The Guest List initially gained traction with high-energy indie covers online. Their original material has since drawn comparisons to Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead and Sam Fender, with production from The Coral’s James Skelly and now Tellez.
The band have played Glastonbury and TRNSMT, and supported Blossoms and Inhaler. They have now announced their biggest tour to date for November, including a headline show at London’s Scala, plus summer festival dates including Reading & Leeds, Latitude, and Tramlines.
