Five years after they acquired Welsh football team Wrexham A.F.C, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have seen the club secure back-to-back promotions.
This has been depicted in FX documentary series Welcome To Wrexham, which follows the highs and lows of the pair’s journey as owners of the club.
Over the course of three seasons, Wrexham A.F.C. have been promoted twice and sit in the EFL League One for the 2024-25 football season. The latter is documented in Welcome To Wrexham’s fourth season, which premiered on May 15, 2025.
A synopsis reads: “The club achieved back-to-back promotions to bring them into EFL League One for the first time in 20 years. As they continue to rise in the pyramid, the stakes get higher with a new level of intensity, competition and costs.”
Do Wrexham AFC get promoted in Welcome To Wrexham season 4?
In the 2024-2025 season, Wrexham finished in second behind Birmingham City in the EFL League One after beating Charlton Athletic 3-0 on April 26, 2025. As such, the team were promoted to the EFL Championship for the 2025-26 season.
Following this result, Wrexham became the first team in the history of English football to be promoted three consecutive years within the top five divisions. This is also the first time the club has been in the second tier since the 1981-82 season.
For the 2025-26 season, Wrexham are aiming for promotion to the Premier League.
Has the show been renewed for season 5?
At the time of writing, FX has not officially renewed the show for a fifth season.
The show’s renewal prospects appear to be hinge on Wrexham’s performance in the EFL Championship over the coming season.
Speaking about the show during a roundtable, Wrexham AFC director Shaun Harvey said: “If we get promoted again, that virtually guarantees another series for the [Welcome To Wrexham] documentary. That gives you another 12 months of the same international profile. You cannot buy what we’re creating. The opportunity isn’t just for us, it’s for everybody.”
