Cynthia Erivo will play Count Dracula, as well as 22 supporting roles, in a one-woman adaptation from the makers of recent West End hit The Picture Of Dorian Gray.
Titled simply Dracula, the Bram Stoker novel was adapted for the stage by director Kip Williams for Sydney Theatre Company in 2024, and will transfer to London’s West End in February 2026. The Guardian reports that Erivo will be playing the title role as well as all 22 supporting characters in “a production that melds theatre with live and prerecorded video”.
The play comes from the creators of The Picture Of Dorian Gray, which starred Succession’s Sarah Snook and won several Oliviers and was nominated for Tony. Like Dracula, Snook played all the parts in the show (26 in total) which mixed live theatre and video.
Erivo herself is no stranger to Theatre, having won a Tony in 2016 for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for the Broadway production of The Colour Purple. In 2025, she is also set to play the title role in Jesus Christ Superstar, performing at The Hollywood Bowl from August 1-3.
She has of course been thrust to a new level of film stardom thanks to the success of Wicked, in which she starred as Elphaba opposite Ariana Grande. Both actors were nominated for Oscars for their performances, performing ‘Defying Gravity’ at March’s ceremony.
They return for the second part of the musical adaptation, Wicked: For Good, which comes to cinemas on November 21. Telling the story of the second half of the stage version, director John M Chu recently discussed how the film will impact audiences when they see it.
Speaking to ExtraTV, he said: Wait until you see ‘For Good’. Wait until you see [Grande and Erivo] do that. That will destroy you”. In January, Cynthia Erivo recalled how she “uncontrollably wept” when first she saw herself onscreen in the first film.
