Dating back to his days in the group Ratking, New York rapper Wiki has been an underground staple, an important figure within a certain lane of New York culture. About a year and a half ago, he teamed up with producer Tony Seltzer for the collaborative album 14K Figaro. Last year, he had a quick cameo in Marty Supreme. Now, he's ready to announce a new album called Ancient History, set to drop next month.
In recent years, Wiki has made a bunch of records like 14K Figaro, full-length team-ups with one producer or another. Ancient History is his first fully solo record since 2019's Oofie, and that album is great. Ancient History has production from people like the Alchemist, Nick Hakim, Navy Blue, and Laron, as well as Mount Kimbie under his Dom Maker alias and MIKE under his dj blackpower alias. Your Old Droog, duendita, and Salimata make appearances.
Zoomo produced Wiki's new single "Park," and it opens with the voice of Harvey Keitel, as heard in the movie Smoke. A lot of rap records have Harvey Keitel samples, but not too many of them dig into the Wayne Wang hangout-movie deep cuts. "Park" is a hangout-movie kind of song. Over a hazy loop, Wiki rhapsodizes about the sense of peace that you can find in New York City's parks: "I need to see some trees, even if these trees sparse." Check it out below.
