Wilco and Billy Bragg have announced they will perform their collaborative 1998 and 2000 Mermaid Avenue albums in full for the first time at Wilco’s own Solid Sound festival on Friday, June 26th.
The “Mermaid Avenue Live” performance — featuring Wilco and Bragg’s recordings set to the unpublished lyrics of Woody Guthrie — will open the festival, which is set to take place at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, from June 26th to June 28th, 2026. Three-day passes are available here.
“The world needs all the Woody Guthrie it can get. We’re thrilled that we get to bring these songs to life with Billy,” Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy said in a statement. Bragg added, “There’s an abiding love out there for the Mermaid Avenue albums, so I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with Wilco to bring Woody’s words to life once again.”
The Mermaid Avenue project came together after Guthrie’s daughter, Nora, approached Bragg, a lifelong fan of her father, about composing music to accompany the lyrics. Bragg then brought in Wilco, and together they recorded 15 tracks for 1998’s Mermaid Avenue. A follow-up album, Mermaid Avenue Vol. II, arrived in 2000. In 2012, Bragg and Wilco released a box set containing both albums and an outtakes disc.
