XO are comprised of Emmy, Reanna, Shali, Summer, and Zoe, with members hailing from Essex, Liverpool, and Hong Kong. The band emerged last year with their debut EP Fashionably Late, which included the single "Lovesick" and a co-write with Charli xcx titled "Real Friends". They have since sold out their first UK tour and received early support from Radio 1 and BBC Introducing.
The
new mini-album takes loose inspiration from advice columns listing “20
Things You Need to Know In Your Twenties”. The band have reframed those
prompts as songs, aiming for a sound that sits between the energy of
early UK girl groups and contemporary pop acts such as Tate McRae and
Katseye.
The new single "Hotline" centres on an advice centre for getting over an ex, built around what the band describe as “ludicrously catchy melodies” and heavy, Timbaland-style beats. The accompanying video features the group’s most ambitious choreography to date.
XO will play the Isle of Wight Festival on 24 June before their November headline run, which includes a London show at O2 Academy Islington on 3 November.
