YouTube TV and Fox have reached a short-term extension that will keep Fox’s television channels on the streaming service as the two sides continue negotiating a new carriage agreement.
The deal was set to expire Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. ET, and YouTube had warned that without a new agreement, it would be forced to pull Fox’s main broadcast network, FS1, Big Ten Network, Fox News, and its other affiliated channels.
For sports fans, a potential blackout meant missing this weekend’s Texas–Ohio State college football matchup, among other games. And if the standoff dragged on, viewers could have also lost access to NFL broadcasts beginning September 7th.
“We have reached a short-term extension with Fox to prevent disruption to YouTube TV subscribers as we continue to work on a new agreement,” YouTube said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon. “We are committed to advocating on behalf of our subscribers as we work toward a fair deal and will keep you updated on our progress.”
Details on the length of the extension were not immediately clear.
