In a conversation with Interview Magazine, mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani was asked about whether he has a playlist that gets him hyped up. "Oh, man. I have a few songs. My wife prefers calmer music in the morning. I, for some reason, want to listen to Kim Petras or Lil Wayne or Madonna," he responded, adding, "At eight in the morning, it doesn’t make much sense." Specifically, he named Kim Petras' "Like Your Look" as a particularly great song.
Mamdani, who is the city's first Muslim and South Asian mayor, was officially sworn in by New York attorney general Letitia James in a private ceremony, which took place at midnight on New Year's Day (January 1) at the Old City Hall subway station. A public celebration and block party (which will hopefully feature some of Mamdani's playlist tracks) is set to take place at City Hall at 1 PM (EST) this afternoon.
“This is truly the honour and the privilege of a lifetime,” Mamdani said upon being sworn in. “I cannot wait to see everyone tomorrow as we begin our term."
