The 2026 Oscar nominations are set to be revealed Thursday, January 22nd beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET/5:30 a.m. PT. This article will be updated as nominees are announced.

This year’s nominees will answer some of awards season’s biggest questions, like “How many Academy Awards will One Battle After Another be up for?” and “Were there other animated movies in 2025 besides KPop Demon Hunters?”

Although One Battle After Another is the front-runner this year, the stunning Paul Thomas Anderson movie has no shortage of competition, including Chloe Zhao’s heartbreaking Hamnet, Ryan Coogler’s genre-exploding good time Sinners, and Guillermo del Toro’s definitive Frankenstein. (Not to mention many other movies featured on Consequence’s Best Movies of 2025 list.)

The Academy membership has notably gotten more global in recent years, which may mean additional success for foreign films outside the International Feature Film category: Brazil’s The Secret Agent, France’s It Was Just an Accident, Norway’s Sentimental Value, and South Korea’s No Other Choice are also strong contenders for Best Picture. Additionally, Wagner Moura of The Secret Agent, Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgard of Sentimental Value, and Lee Byung-hun of No Other Choice are also in consideration for their acting work.

One fun twist for this year: In 2025, following the 97th Academy Awards, AMPAS announced a new rule that in order to participate in the final voting, Academy members must watch all the nominated movies in each category. Which means getting to imagine folks like Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise sitting through all of the below nominees before casting their votes.

The 2026 Academy Awards are set to take place on Sunday, March 15th, 2026 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Conan O’Brien returns as host.
