Alongside the news, the band have shared a new single, "I Know!", a track that emerged spontaneously: "I Know! was written accidentally - a song arising from an in-between practice jam," vocalist and guitarist Venus O'Broin explains. "Unlike the other songs on the album, this song kind of wrote itself. The lyrics alike arose pretty spontaneously too, without much over-analysing or fluff. I Know! I Know! I Know! You know?"
The group — comprised of O'Broin, Joshua Doherty (bass), Maxwell Elphick (guitar, drums, vocals), and Jack Medlyn (guitar, drums, vocals) — formed in the early 2020s, bonding over a shared appreciation for the likes of Pavement and Sonic Youth. After releasing their debut single in late 2023, their 2024 Oxalis EP won best release and best song ("Ceiling Fan") at the South Australian Music Awards. More recently, they also won the Emerging Artist & Best Performance award at SXSW Sydney.
Swapmeet play the US for the first time next month at SXSW in Austin, with a showcase on 13 March at Valhalla presented by The Planetary Group, sharing the bill with Wilby, Cashier and Grrrl Gang. The band's album is expected to follow later this year.
