On Sunday, Amanda Seyfried made an unexpected appearance at Cafe Oto. She joined Daniel Blumberg for a live performance in support of The Testament of Ann Lee, the forthcoming film directed by Mona Fastvold and co-written by Brady Corbet, in which Seyfried stars, with the score composed by Blumberg. The event also featured additional collaborators Maggie Nicols, Steve Noble, Billy Steiger, and Tom Wheatley, to present a full concert of songs and the score from the film.
I was eeeeever so slightly ambivalent about The Testament of Ann Lee at Venice but I’m at a point where I’m desperate for round two. This Cafe Oto performance of the score with Daniel Blumberg and Amanda Seyfried has fed that urge tenfold. pic.twitter.com/Faq23ZZkJI
— douglas greenwood (@douglasgrnwd) October 12, 2025The Testament of Ann Lee premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in September. The film follows the life of Ann Lee, the 18th-century founder of the Shaker movement, from her early beginnings in Manchester to her eventual leadership within the religious sect.
Recently, Seyfried has starred in the crime drama miniseries Long Bright River. At the same time, Blumberg released his third solo album GUT, in 2023, and was awarded an Oscar for the original score of the 2024 film The Brutalist. As a longtime fixture at Cafe Oto, Blumberg has regularly performed with fellow improvisers, and he even referenced the experimental venue during his Oscar acceptance speech.
