Gorillaz Tap IDLES for New Track “The God of Lying”: Stream

Gorillaz have recruited IDLES for their new track “The God of Lying,” the latest single off their upcoming new album The Mountain.

Rooted in a psychedelic reggae rhythm, “The God of Lying” features spoken word narration from IDLES’ Joe Talbot, cooed vocals from Damon Albarn, and uneasy, chirping synths. Continuing with The Mountain‘s global melting pot vision, the song also boasts percussion from Viraj Acharya and bansuri playing from Ajay Prasanna.

Lyrically, Talbot poses a set of questions in the verses relating to societal and political tension: “Are you deafened by the headlines?/ Or does your head not hear at all?,” Talbot mutters in the first verse, later asking “Are you bubbling at the surface, of what’s cooking underneath?” Then, in the chorus, Albarn seems to respond: “Oh don’t you say that you think I’m in glory…/ Running to the exit with a huge grin on my face/ Screaming hope is behind and I wanna get high.” Stream “The God of Lying” below.

The Mountain, Gorillaz’s ninth studio album, will arrive on March 20th, 2026 (pre-order here). The band has previously previewed the new record with singles “The Happy Dictator” and “The Manifesto.” Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn enlisted dozens of unique contributors for the project, including Sparks, Johnny Marr, Proof, Bizarrap, Tony Allen, Black Thought, and many more.

Gorillaz will also celebrate the release of The Mountain with a 2026 UK and Ireland tour, which kicks off on March 21st. Get tickets here.
