DJ and producer Avalon Emerson released the self-titled debut of her more pop-oriented project Avalon Emerson & The Charm in 2023, and now she’s announced the follow-up. Written into Changes is due out on March 20 via Dead Oceans. It was co-produced with Nathan Jenkins and Rostam Batmanglij with assistance from multi-instrumentalists Keivon Mehdi Hobeheidar and Jay Flew, and Hunter Lombard (who is also Avalon’s wife). “For the first album, the songs were pretty soft and kind of bedroomy, Avalon says. “And then playing them on a big kind of festival stage was a learning experience. Coming back into the studio for a second round, it was important to think about the dynamics and energy of what we were making and how they might be performed in the future.”

The album opens with Avalon’s November single “Eden,” and she’s shared a new single, breezy indie pop track “Jupiter and Mars,” which was written and produced with Rostam Batmanglij. “I loved chasing this song with Rostam almost as much as our two little dogs loved chasing each other around the studio,” Avalon says. Watch the video, directed by Ben Turok, below.

Avalon will be on tour this spring, including shows supporting Snail Mail, Fcukers, an NYC show at Knockdown Center on May 8 as part of C2C Festival 2026, and more. See all dates below.
