Just hours before its scheduled premiere on Monday, August 18, the BBC unexpectedly postponed the debut of its new documentary, Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home. The film, which chronicles the final years of Ozzy Osbourne, was set to air during primetime. No official reason was given for the sudden scheduling change.
A spokesperson for the BBC told Rolling Stone: "The film has moved in the schedules and we'll confirm new transmission details in due course."
The documentary was filmed over the past three years and originally announced in 2022 under the title Home to Roost. At the time, it was envisioned as a family-centered project following the Osbournes' long-awaited move back to England.
However, as Ozzy Osbourne's health struggles worsened — including complications from Parkinson's disease and lingering injuries from a 2019 fall — the focus of the project shifted. Coming Home evolved into a more intimate portrayal of Ozzy Osbourne in his final years, highlighting both his physical battles and his unwavering spirit.
Producers of Coming Home described the film as a “remarkably candid and uplifting tribute,” offering fans unprecedented access to the Osbourne family. The documentary reportedly includes footage of Ozzy Osbourne training for his farewell concert, which took place in early July, mere weeks before his passing.
Clare Sillery, the BBC's head of documentary commissioning, praised the project, noting that it captured Ozzy's “enduring spirit” and added: "We hope it brings comfort and joy to Ozzy's fans and viewers as they remember and celebrate his extraordinary life."
At this time, the BBC has not announced a new airdate for Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home. Whether it resurfaces later this year or remains shelved is uncertain. What's clear, however, is that anticipation among fans remains sky-high for what promises to be one of the most personal and emotional portraits of the Black Sabbath frontman ever produced.
What is Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home?
Told through deeply personal access to Sharon, Jack, and Kelly Osbourne, Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home is full of love, resilience, and raw vulnerability. The documentary follows the Osbourne family over three years, capturing Ozzy's battle with serious health issues — including Parkinson's disease and spinal complications — while he and his wife Sharon pursued their longtime dream of returning to the U.K.
"It was an incredible privilege to spend the last few years with Ozzy, as well as Sharon, Jack and Kelly," said executive producers Ben Wicks and Colin Barr of the production company Expectation at the time. "Ozzy wanted to make it back to the U.K. and appear on stage one last time — our film is an inspiring and poignant account of him fulfilling that dream.
"Ozzy was loved by millions around the world not just for his music, but for his sense of mischief and his honesty all of which we saw plenty of in the final years of his life. But one thing shone through even more brightly to us, and that was Ozzy's intense love for his exceptional family who were by his side through it all."
Sillery added at the time: "We are honored to have had the opportunity to film with Ozzy and his family. The film captures an intimate glimpse into their journey as they prepare to return to the U.K. It features family moments, humor, reflection and shows the enduring spirit that made Ozzy a global icon. We hope it brings comfort and joy to Ozzy's fans and viewers as they remember and celebrate his extraordinary life."
