A few years ago, Billy Idol discovered that he had a long-lost son named Brant. In a new documentary, Idol and his other children explain how they found out there was another member of the family.

The punk icon explained that he unknowingly fathered Brant while on his 1985 “Rebel Yell Tour” in the new doc Billy Idol Should Be Dead, which just premiered at the Tribeca Festival in New York City.

As Far Out reports, Idol’s daughter Bonnie took a 23andMe DNA test, which led her to finding out about Brant.

“My husband just surprised me with a 23andMe, with a DNA test as a Christmas present,” explained Bonnie in the film. “And then a few weeks later, I get the results back on the app and open it and I’m like, who is this? This Brant. And it says his info’s like, New York, 1985, looking for my bio dad. I was like, ‘What?’”

Until then, Bonnie and her half-brother Willem had no idea they had another sibling, with Idol himself admitting in the documentary, “I actually had a son that I didn’t realize who I fathered on the Rebel Yell tour without knowing it.”

Brant was also interviewed in the film, saying, “I was like, ‘Mom, is there a chance Mark might not be my biological father?’ And she’s like, ‘Well, it’s pretty crazy, but back in the day, we broke up and I actually spent a weekend with Billy Idol’.”

Idol has welcomed Brant into his life in recent years, sharing backstage photos with him on Instagram. Brant also attended the rock icon’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2023 (as seen in the Instagram post below).

The documentary’s premiere comes in between legs of Idol’s North American tour with Joan Jett. The first leg wrapped up in late May, with the second leg set to kick off August 16th in Philadelphia (pick up tickets here).
