After the first part of the new Billy Joel documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes premiered at Tribeca Film Festival this month, HBO Max has confirmed that both parts will arrive on the platform next month, with part one debuting on July 18th and part two following on July 25th.

The documentary captures the highs and lows of Joel’s life and career, delving into his various hit singles and albums, relationships, and health struggles. The premiere at Tribeca had previously revealed a particularly dark chapter in Joel’s life; he attempted suicide twice before launching his solo career, citing an affair with his best friend and bandmate’s wife as the catalyst for his depression.

Part one also details Joel’s near-fatal motorcycle accident in 1982 and his relationship to alcohol, which had a significant impact on his health. Part two, on the other hand, explores Joel’s road to recovery, his late-career albums, and his historic residency at Madison Square Garden. The documentary was directed by Susan Lacey and Jessica Levin and features a large slate of guest stars, including Bruce Springsteen, Sting, John Mellencamp, Nas, Pink, Garth Brooks, Paul McCartney, and more; sign up for HBO Max to watch Billy Joel: And So It Goes.

The new look into Joel’s life was intended to be paired with a major 2025 stadium tour, but Joel cancelled all his tour dates after being diagnosed with a brain disorder last month.
