BLACKPINK singer Lisa has opened up about the doubts she had about creating her album ‘Alter Ego’, saying how she’s “a shy girl inside”.
BLACKPINK’s Lisa recently spoke to The Wall Street Journal Magazine for the magazine’s most recent cover, where she opened up about the initial doubt she had surrounding her choice to go solo independently.
“I’m a shy girl inside,” she told the outlet. “In BLACKPINK, we each have a position. But if I don’t do it now, when am I going to do it?” She also added that her conversations with her bandmates have helped provide her some much-needed support for the huge shift in her solo career this past year.
“We’d always talk about it like, ‘How do you feel?’ ‘I feel the same.’ We’ve spent three, four years [training] here – you’re just going to go out and do something else? I don’t think you want that,” the Thai K-pop idol recalled, adding that they stay in regular contact during their time apart. “I’m just so lucky to have them. After I do the VMAs or a big show, they always text me.”
When it came to what she wanted to do with her solo music post-YG Entertainment, Lisa said she got to know her own range as a musician better while recording ‘Alter Ego’. “I didn’t know I was able to do this kind of stuff as well as the hip-hop. I want them to be surprised,” she admitted, referring to her fans.
‘Alter Ego’ marked Lisa’s first full-length album. The record included singles such as ‘Rockstar’, ‘Born Again’ featuring Doja Cat and RAYE, ‘Moonlit Floor’ and more. The album also featured guest artists such as Megan Thee Stallion, Tyla and Future.
