The magic of Broken Social Scene is the same as it ever was: They're a group of roughly one million scruffy motherfuckers up onstage playing guitar, and they sound like a group of roughly one million scruffy motherfuckers up onstage playing guitar. There's a sense of communal joy in their blurrily maximalist indie rock, and you can hear it come through clearly on some of their best songs. I hear it on "The Call."
Next month, Broken Social Scene will release Remember The Humans, their first new album since 2017's Hug Of Thunder. The recorded it with David Newfeld, producer of 2002's You Forgot It In People and 2005's Broken Social Scene. After the LP comes out, BSS will hit the road with their old comrades Metric and Stars. We're running everything back! BSS already shared the early tracks "Not Around Anymore" and "Hey Amanda," and now they've got another one.
"The Call" is the third and final track that Broken Social Scene are releasing before Remember The Humans comes out, and it recaptures that old feeling. It's a big, messy, comforting jam with layers upon layers of guitars, keyboards, and backup harmonies. This is the most exhilarating kind of nostalgia trip, and you can experience it for yourself below.
Remember The Humans is out 5/8 on Arts & Crafts.
