The new record will be the Canadian outfit's first full-length release in nearly a decade, following their fifth album, Hug of Thunder, released in 2017. Today, they share lead single and opening track "Not Around Anymore", which is accompanied by a video directed by Jordan D. Allen, Rachel McLean, and Broken Social Scene vocalist and co-founder Kevin Drew.

Remember the Humans is the product of a reunion between Drew and David Newfeld who produced the new album, in addition to earlier releases You Forgot It in People in 2022, and their 2005 self-titled record, Broken Social Scene. The pair had both lost their mothers, leading to a shared grief that brought them closer throughout the recording process, as Newfeld notes: "Our moms would have wanted us to do this, and get it right after 20 years of not working together.”

The album also features collaborations from Hannah Georgas, Feist, and Lisa Lobsinger, expanding upon the sound that the band has shaped over the last twenty years. Speaking about the record, founding member Charles Spearin says: “There's a different kind of honesty in this record. We've had success, we've lost friends, we've lost parents, we're at this ‘what happens next?’ stage in life."
