Charli XCX has unveiled Wuthering Heights, her companion album to Emerald Fennell’s new film of the same name.
Charli was initially set to record an original song for Fennell’s adaptation, but after productive sessions with Brat producer and collaborator Finn Keane, she decided to make an entire album of original material as a companion project. She released three singles before its arrival: “House” (feat. John Cale), “Chains of Love,” and “Wall of Sound.” The LP, which we named as one of the most anticipated pop albums of the year, also features contributions from Djo, Sky Ferreira, and Justin Raisen.

The songs on Wuthering Heights, which Charli described as “undeniably raw, wild, sexual, gothic, [and] British,” have been incorporated heavily in the film, which arrives in theaters today. Revisit our review, which describes Charli XCX’s contributions as “a pretty perfect marriage of music and visual. Much more perfect than any of the actual marriages seen in this movie.”
Wuthering Heights is not Charli’s only foray into cinematic territory this year. Her new film The Moment is in theaters now and serves as a mockumentary of Charli’s Brat era; meanwhile, she’ll make acting appearances in the new projects I Want Your Sex and Erupcja. Charli also worked alongside Jack Antonoff and FKA twigs on the music for the upcoming A24 flick Mother Mary, which stars Anne Hathaway as a fictional pop star making a return to the stage.
