I hadn’t heard of Hulu’s Tell Me Lies until just now. But if it somehow garners us a CHVRCHES cover of Robert Palmer’s singular “Addicted to Love,” then the show clearly deserves a Golden Globe.

CHVRCHES’ extra brooding take on the 1985 classic is featured in the show’s third season (out now), and is said to add an “unforgettable sonic layer to the series’ emotional intensity.” And while yours truly didn’t know this show from a hole in the wall, CHVRCHES were keenly aware of this moody melodrama.

“As a genuine fan of Tell Me Lies, I was so excited to watch the new season, let alone make music for it,” said CHVRCHES frontwoman Lauren Mayberry in a statement. “We were in the studio working on the new CHVRCHES album when we got the call and it was a really fun thing to get our teeth stuck into, finding the right balance of emotions — heartfelt, yet unhinged — to mirror what the show is so good at.”

And if that weren’t enough cover goodness, CHVRCHES also covered “Such Great Heights” from The Postal Service. That rendition will arrive on Tuesday, February 17th and is featured heavily across this season’s eighth episode. The band are clearly no strangers to great covers: In 2024, Iain Cook unveiled a mighty remix of yet another classic, The Cranberries’ “Linger.”

If you’re so inclined, here’s the official synopsis for season three of Tell Me Lies:

“Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White) rekindle their tumultuous romance as spring semester begins at Baird College. While they vow to make things different this time, past indiscretions loom large. Lucy becomes entangled in a controversy she desperately wants to avoid, while the fallout from last year forces their friends to confront their own destructive behaviors. As scandalous secrets spread across campus, vicious consequences threaten Lucy and everyone in her circle.”

As mentioned, CHVRCHES are already at work on what would be their fifth studio album, and the follow-up to 2021’s Screen Violence. In 2023, the band re-released The Bones of What You Believe in celebration of that record’s 10th anniversary.
