PEAK STATE is Brent Pella’s feature film ode to festival culture. Fittingly, it’s set to be shot inside a large-scale event that he’s organizing himself.
Talk about method acting. Comedian and director Brent Pella plans to deliver a feature film about festival culture, and he’s opted to throw a large-scale gathering of his own to serve as the backdrop for the tongue-in-cheek tale.
PEAK STATE is both the title of the movie and the name of the event. It will run from April 15-19 at Valkyrie Ranch in Austin, featuring performances by artists like Skysia, Goldcap, Crawdad Sniper, Ruby Chase, and an yet-to-be-announced secret headliner. Anyone looking to attend and possibly become an extra can secure their entry by donating $222 to the concept’s Kickstarter campaign.
“We have already raised separate money for the film,” Pella told EDM.com. “The Kickstarter is meant to allow us to cover the heart of producing the festival, and it also acts as the ticket source for anybody that wants to attend.”
Pella — a stand-up comedian and online content creator who has appeared on the MTV game show Wild’N Out since 2021 — will star alongside fellow comic Nikki Howard in the film. They will act out the roles of a couple trying to rekindle their romance by attending a music festival together. PEAK STATE aims to capture the “beautiful chaos and creativity” of festivals by portraying “the natural environment of a music festival as our characters go through their journey over the course of the story,” Pella said.
“[PEAK STATE] is simultaneously a love letter to the festival space while also poking fun at it in some ways,” he explained. “We want to invite people in while also honoring the people that make this scene what it is.”
