Last month Commitment announced their debut album Fear Of and unleashed the second single "Dog Pound," following December's "Hellraiser." The Philly hardcore supergroup is back today with another ferocious ripper, and this one's called "STD."
"'STD' (Send The Deposit) is an anthem for the oldest profession in the world, a profession that to this day is highly debated and heavily persecuted: sex work," bandleader Tati Salazar says, expanding:
More specifically FSSW. So much art and media is made about sex work or at the very least, relays heavily on the influence, aesthetic and culture of sex work. And yet so little of that art and media that gets praise and attention is made by men and women who never have and never will do sex work a day in their life. Even within SWer communities, there is an alarming amount of whorephobia, such as a stripper or cam model thinking they have the moral high ground over someone that provides full service or does porn. Despite the constant conversations around SW and the morality of SW, I feel as though no progress ever gets made. No matter how eloquently I or other SWers can formulate our thoughts and defense of SW, there will be an overwhelming amount of people that believe all SWers are dirty, diseased and/or evil. So this song is equally a love letter to all the hookers and whores who just want to make their money in peace, as much as it’s sort of playing into the hand of the unfair biases and stigmas against us from incels, whorephobes, religious zealots, misogynists, etc.
