Courtney Barnett has announced a new album, Creature of Habit, out on March 27th via Mom + Pop. She’s also released the new song “Site Unseen” featuring Waxahatchee, and revealed a batch of 2026 headlining tour dates.
Creature of Habit is Barnett’s first release in nearly five years and her fourth studio album overall. Barnett took inspiration from her move from Australia to Los Angeles, the closure of her longtime label Milk! Records, and the confusion that comes with adjusting to change. She initially previewed the project last fall with “Stay in Your Lane,” a scorching-but-satisfying return to Barnett’s usual indie rock flavors. We also named Creature of Habit one of the Most Anticipated Indie Rock Albums of 2026.
Barnett will support Creature of Habit with a two-legged 2026 North American tour. She’ll first hit the road in May with shows in Austin, Houston, Dallas, Nashville, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, St. Louis, Columbus, Toronto, and more, closing out the run with a concert in Chicago on May 24th. She’ll pick back up on August 11th in Cleveland, continuing with dates in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Seattle, Portland, Denver, San Francisco, and more. The tour concludes on August 29th in Los Angeles. Support throughout the tour will come from Momma, Built to Spill, Truman Sinclair, and Zoh Amba; see Barnett’s full list of tour dates below.
Tickets for Courtney Barnett’s 2026 tour will first go on sale via an artist pre-sale beginning on Wednesday, January 21st at 10:00 a.m. local time; fans can sign up for pre-sale access to their desired show date(s) via Barnett’s official website. Tickets will go on sale for the general public on Friday, January 23rd at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
Barnett has revealed “Site Unseen,” the latest preview of Creature of Habit. With Waxahatchee offering sweet harmonies above Barnett’s lead line, the song is less rousing than prior single “Stay in Your Lane” and more introspective. Watch the song’s official video below.
“I tried 3 separate times over 2 years to track this song, and each time it either wasn’t finished or didn’t sound right and each time we had to start again,” Barnett said in a press release. “I kept hearing this really high harmony in my head, so for the fourth and final version, I asked Katie [Crutchfield] if she’d be into singing it with me. I’m a big Waxahatchee fan. I really love Katie’s songwriting and her voice, so it was an honour to have her sing on ‘Site Unseen.’”
Barnett’s last album was 2021’s Things Take Time, Take Time.
