David Lee Roth kicked off his 2026 North American solo tour in Spokane, Washington, on Thursday night, performing a set primarily made up of Van Halen classics.
Out of 17 songs, 15 of them were from his Van Halen tenure, with the only two others being an untitled acoustic blues piece and a surprising cover of Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind.”

Video of opening track “Panama” shows the 71-year old rock singer delivering a Sprechgesang take on the classic track, performing a dramatic monologue while the backup singers covered the anthemic melodies in sharp harmonies.
While Diamond Dave may not be able to hit the notes he once hit in his prime, his backing band sounds in fine form, nearly living up to the high bar of the original Van Halen.
