Classy Hits Vol.2 arrives eighteen months after the band's formation and follows their self-titled debut EP from September 2024. The collective brings together seasoned figures from the UK and European DIY scenes, many of whom are also involved in community organising. The band releases music on their own label, Peach Records, maintaining full creative control.
"Chamois Leather" blends sharp afropunk guitar lines with a disco groove and call-and-response vocals, offering the first taste of a record that we're told takes cues from Tom Tom Club, The Slits and Le Tigre. The band describe it as a meditation on feeling alienated yet hyper-visible: "‘Chamois Leather’ is about nothing in particular and yet everything at the same time," they say. "Have you ever felt like you were a strange pimple on the teenage chin of society? This song is for everyone who aches to be understood but is also desperate to not be observed."
Accompanying the single is a video directed by bassist Elena Agulla Gil, shot at Hoxton Hall and starring East London regular Steve MacGuire, known for his energetic dancing at indie shows. "Steve is a local legend, who attends and dances his heart out at multiple indie gigs per week, supporting the community," the band explains. "We were out for Estella’s [Adeyeri, guitarist] birthday and saw him dancing. We knew then that he’d be the perfect person to portray the WIDGET ethos."
