Fever Ray Announces The Year of Radical Romantics Live to Tape Album and Zine

Fever Ray has announced The Year of the Radical Romantics, a new live to tape studio recording of their recent world tour’s setlist. The record is out July 25th via Mute Records and will be accompanied by a zine. Watch the video for “Now’s The Only Time I Know (Therapy Session)” below, which features Karin Dreijer’s Fever Ray dressed up as Radical Romantics’ various characters in a group therapy session.

In 2023 and 2024, Fever Ray embarked on the “There’s No Place I’d Rather Be Tour,” which took the Swedish artist across the globe while they promoted their third album Radical Romantics. Fever Ray collaborated with their touring band on this new record, with Minna Koivisto credited on keyboards, Romarna Campbell on drums, and Maryam Nikandish and Helena Gutarra rounding out the group on keytar and vocals.

“It’s been the best time, performing romance with these people,” Dreijer said about The Year of the Radical Romantics. “Because with them, I feel safe. We’ve been working together for so long. We are very caring and loving on stage towards each other.”

They continued, “These versions feel good at this time. We don’t know where we are next. But I want something warm. And I want it to be collective.”

Dreijer kicked off the “Therapy Session” editions of their catalog with a new rendition of “I’m Not Done” last month, which featured a similar therapy-style video. The video for today’s version of “Now’s The Only Time I Know” picks up with Dreijer’s characters once again as the therapy session takes a left-turn. The session leader/therapist Ebba gets hot and heavy with the sleazy and suited Romance; the axe-wielding Demona Lisa sneers at the camera and her cohorts; occultist Snusis has a breakdown in the bathroom; Main anxiously sticks to room’s walls disengaging from everyone; and Fever Ray dances around in the bubbling over disorder.

The Year of the Radical Romantics zine was designed by Fever Ray and Martin Falck, and dives into the origins and evolutions of the album’s characters and eventual live show. The publication will feature photographs by Ray, the band, and Nina Andersson, plus sketches, behind the scenes editorials, and more. “Creating the characters for the Radical Romantics era has been a true labor of love,” Falck said. “Bringing them to life, watching them experience love, heartbreak, death, and even getting fired, has been an absolute joy. Working on this publication has given us a chance to reflect on our own creative process, and we’re so excited to share it with you.”

Fever Ray released Radical Romantics in 2023 via Mute Records, which included the songs “Carbon Dioxide,” “Kandy,” “Shiver,” and “Even It Out.” In 2024, Dreijer and over 1,000 artists (including Robyn, First Aid Kit, and Viagra Boys) signed an open letter proposing a barring of Israel from the Eurovision Song Contest in 2024.
