The “Back to the Beginning” concert has begun! The all-day event at Birmingham, England’s Villa Park, leading up to the final performances from Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, kicked off on Saturday (July 5th) with mini-sets from Mastodon, Rival Sons, Anthrax, Halestorm, and Lamb of God.
Mastodon got things started with two originals (“Black Tongue” and “Blood and Thunder”) before taking on Sabbath’s “Supernaut,” with drummer Brann Dailor handling lead vocals, and Gojira’s Mario Duplantier, Tool’s Danny Carey, and Slipknot’s Eloy Casagrande each adding percussion.
Rival Sons sandwiched a cover of Sabbath’s “Electric Funeral” in between two originals, while Anthrax performed “Indians” and Sabbath’s “Into the Void.” Halestorm played “Love Bites (So Do I)” and “Rain Your Blood on Me” along with a cover of Ozzy’s “Perry Mason,” and Lamb of God performed “Laid to Rest,” “September Song,” and Sabbath’s “Children of the Grave.”
Stay tuned as we provide more updates from the “Back to the Beginning” concert. Watch fan-filmed footage below.
