"Not My Friends" follows previous singles "Every Woman", "Imposter", and "Victim", as the latest preview of a collection of songs that see Fiona-Lee approach difficult emotional situations with introspection.
Discussing the track, Fiona-Lee explains: “'Not My Friends' is about trying to fill an emotional void at any cost to avoid feeling alone. It came from a time when I was investing in the wrong relationships with the wrong people and accepting less than I deserved because of the “something is better than nothing” mindset. That fear of loneliness can be a hard cycle to break, even when you’re fully aware of it. At its heart, 'Not My Friends' is about self-awareness, recognising misplaced attachments, and having self compassion for when you fall back into those habits.”
