Former Tapir! member Evelyn Gray announces new project, I Am Building A House

This marks the first new music from Evelyn Gray since Tapir! announced their split last May, following the release of their debut album, The Pilgrim, Their God and The King Of My Decrepit Mountain, just a year earlier.

Today, Gray returns with the news of a new project, I Am Building A House, which emerged from a job in which she was tasked with documenting the rooms of an abandoned apartment building before its demolition. The songs tell the stories of the block's inhabitants, with "Clothesline", an account of an inventor overwhelmed by the machines in his room, arriving as the first single.

In a novel that is set to accompany the project, Gray writes:

“From outside of this room I can hear its inner workings; gasps and wheezes, clunks and squeezes. Mechanical whirring and repetition. I enter the room to find statues of machinery, piles of cogs and walls decorated with mesh and wire and cuckoo clocks. Some lights are flashing, as if their only purpose is to behold his attention, before suddenly, another to my right, then to my left, then behind. A blue one, then red, then green…”
