Texas death metal/hardcore heavyweights Frozen Soul have unleashed a blistering new track, "Absolute Zero," a no-frills, 53-second burst of pure aggression that hits hard and gets out fast.
Frontman Chad Green says the song is rooted firmly in the current political climate and the band's uncompromising stance against authoritarianism.
"More relevant than the day it was written — with all of the chaos happening in our country, with ICE killing and ripping apart families, 'Absolute Zero' comes as our stance against authoritarianism and the monsters that are enforcing it," Green states.
Musically, "Absolute Zero" is a concise ode to the band's deep love of punk, hardcore, and old-school death metal, stripping things back to raw intent: no polish, no excess, just a punch straight to the gut.
The accompanying video mirrors that ethos. Clocking in at just over a minute, it's stark, confrontational, and brutally literal. Green describes its creation: "I went and got the biggest sledgehammer I could find, and Sam [bassist] carved 'icebreaker' into it. We wrote a little message to the world on it — then I froze a skull I painted in my freezer, put it on a cinder block, and obliterated it. The best ice is crushed ice."
Frozen Soul will hit the road this April alongside headliners Avatar and fellow openers Fleshgod Apocalypse. The tour kicks off April 16 in Sacramento, California, and runs through May 20 in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, hitting major festivals including Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple.
