GB is Gustav Berntsen, the newest signee to AD 93. He hails from Copenhagen, whence so much of the world's best experimental pop music currently emanates. After debuting for his new label with "Adrenaline" in the spring, he's back today with another track and details of his new album.
Herzsprung is out in August. Berntsen funded it with his paycheck from appearing in a Jaguar ad two years ago. The material finds him employing a sophisticated guitar-pop approach, a bit like Westerman if he was working with Jim O'Rourke or Cate Le Bon. Whereas "Adrenaline" tastefully rocked out with a helter-skelter center of balance, new single "Starsound" drifts along into clouds of brass and guitar, like a surreal gondola ride. "I'll calm down if you calm down/ I'll shup up too," GB sings. "I agree, this is stupid/ But you should see yourself."
