Gina Carano, whose acting career was largely derailed after a series of inflammatory social media posts led to her termination from The Mandaldorian in 2021, is returning to combat sports.
On Saturday, May 16th, Carano will face Ronda Rousey in an MMA bout at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, streaming live on Netflix. The matchup is being billed as Netflix’s first live MMA event.
Carano, 43, has not competed in combat sports since 2009, as her focus shifted to a career in film and television.
In 2021, Carano was fired from her role on The Mandalorian after a series of social media posts sparked backlash, including one that compared the treatment of conservatives in the US to the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany. She also drew criticism for posts mocking COVID-era mask-wearing and for amplifying false claims about voter fraud.
In 2024, Carano filed a wrongful-termination and discrimination lawsuit against Lucasfilm and parent company Disney, with financial backing from Elon Musk. The case was settled in August 2025, and the lawsuit was dismissed
