Green Day Road Trip Comedy Nimrods Unveils Trailer

57 minutes ago 2

For a very long time now, we've been hearing about the new road-trip comedy that Green Day are making in conjunction with Live Nation. Last year, when the movie had the title New Year's Rev, we got a teaser. Now, the movie has been given the new title Nimrods, which is a little more obviously Green Day-based. It's got a poster, a release date, and a brand new trailer.

As previously reported, Nimrods is writer/director Lee Kirk's story about a young punk band who travels cross-country because they think they're going to open for Green Day. Mason Thames from Black Phone 2 plays the lead, with relative unknowns Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust as his bandmates and relative known Mckenna Grace as his love interest. A bunch of established comedy types pop up in recurring roles, including Fred Armisen, Angela Kinsey, Bobby Lee, Sean Gunn, and Kirk's wife Jenna Fischer. Also, it looks like the members of Green Day will have roles that are bigger than cameos. They'll have to do actual comedy. We'll see how that goes.

The Nimrods trailer makes it look like a perfectly-decent piece of Sunday-afternoon viewing, something to watch while laying around in bed and possibly hungover. But this is Stereogum, and I'm reviewing all these vaguely music-centric movies now, so I will see it and report back at my earliest convenience. Check out the trailer below.

Nimrods arrives in theaters 8/14.
