GUM explores melancholy and atmosphere on his upcoming seventh album, Blue Gum Way

2 weeks ago 9

Blue Gum Way arrives after GUM — the project of Jay Watson of Pond and Tame Impala — announced his signing to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's independent label p(doom) records back in October, alongside the release of "Expanding Blue", the first single from the album.

Today, GUM shares "Celluloid", the second track lifted from the upcoming record. Discussing the song, which is accompanied by a music video directed by previous collaborator Kristofski, he says: "Everything feels worse in the middle of the night, it’s where peak worry and catastrophizing happens. Exacerbated by a slow death from blue screen light and brain rot."

The album was self-produced by GUM, and is noted to stand as his boldest, most refined work to date, following his 2024 album Ill Times, which was a collaborative collection with King Gizzard member Ambrose Kenny-Smith. The title serves as an ode to melancholy, place, and atmosphere, referencing Australia’s blue gum eucalyptus trees.
