We’re celebrating Vocalist Week at Consequence. Here, GWAR front-thing Blöthar the Berserker names his Top 3 vocalists ever. See Consequence’s list of the 100 Best Vocalists of All Time, among other features.
GWAR‘s Blöthar the Berserker is one of the greatest extraterrestrial singers of all time, but who are his favorite human vocalists? We’ve got the answers in the video above and the text below as part of Consequence‘s “Vocalist Week.”
The intergalactic barbarians of GWAR just wrapped up a spring tour, but they’ve already announced a Fall 2026 North American run with Midnight and Mac Sabbath. Tickets are available here.
Blöthar the Berserker’s Top 3 Vocalists of All Time
David Lee Roth
When I think vocals in rock ‘n’ roll, I think of one person, and that is David Lee Roth. He’s gotta be one of the greats. I love his squeals. Now, maybe, I don’t know, but back in the day, boy, he had a magic set of pipes. And lemme tell you something, David Lee Roth knew how to dance. He was a consummate entertainer and I respect that.
Solomon Burke
Just for raw sheer vocal talent, I’m gonna say Solomon Burke. I know nobody knows who he is; I don’t give a shit. “Cry to Me” was one of his hits, and “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love.” One of the great sort of undersold soul singers in American history. He had something like 40-some children, and he died on the toilet in the airport in Amsterdam. I want to go that way! I want to die in Schiphol airport while taking a dump, with 40 kids!
Ozzy Osbourne
I really like Ozzy. I thought Ozzy was a great singer and he had the right phrasing. We’re on tour right now with a guy who has fucking great phrasing, and that’s Max Cavalera. But Ozzy, he knew how to put the lyrics in the pocket. He was a good singer. I know he didn’t write a lot of the lyrics, but he wrote a lot of melodies that stick with you.
